Message from Our Founder

I remember when, some years ago, I left the prestigious law firm where I was a junior associate in the corporate practice, to join the management of TV3 here in Ghana in a corporate communications role. I know a number of people were rather taken aback. “Why is Carla working at a TV station? I thought she was a lawyer.” Why, indeed?

Now I have always loved TV and film –indeed, after studying undergraduate law in the UK, I considered going on to study film. Law won out in the end, but my love for the medium never waned. Unfortunately, for a long time, the perception many had of the creative industries here in Ghana was that people who went in to them were the ones who could not cut it as scientists, engineers, doctors and lawyers. This perception is changing slowly, along with the growth of the worldwide popularity of music from African stars and film industries like Nollywood, but I believe, not fast enough. The talent and potential of our creatives is of as much importance to the building of our nations as those of other professionals.

There are many reasons to push for increased attention to and investment in our film, music and digital media, not least of which is the power they have to take control of our own narratives – the many layered magic of ancient and modern Africa. But let us for a moment focus on something everyone can get behind: the money. In 2019, Ghana earned approx. US$503.1 million from oil, and US$701.6 million. The U.S. media and entertainment (M&E) industry in the same period, earned about $717 billion. The much-touted Aker development of Pecan oil field in Ghana is projected to cost about $4.4billion. The film Black Panther enjoyed Box Office revenues of US$1.347 billion, with an estimated production budget of US$ 200 million. Creativity elsewhere is serious business, and the team at Agency Seven Seven is here to treat it with the seriousness it deserves.

We are advocates for our clients, using our understanding of intellectual property, business set-up requirements and contracts to protect and advance their interests. Our partners have the legal and accounting expertise to ensure that all our clients have access to the full suite of professional services they need at every stage of their development. This is our WHY, and we look forward to serving you with diligence and professionalism.
